But let’s turn to the negatives.

Or as some of us say....Reality.

The upshot of this column is that the MOU would make second-rate toilet paper. The key question is what happens after the November election. Who can read Trump's mind?

Short, and to the point. I’ve read enough history, and it’s never a quick end. Still, I keep hoping we’ll see more obvious and lasting progress.

Without wishing to sound a pessimist, ‘more obvious and lasting progress’ is unlikely.

Israel’s peace with Egypt and Jordan remains ‘cold’ but is holding.

Iran and its proxies call for the destruction of Israel and ‘death to America’, so with the evil regime still in place, and duplicitous Qatar, problematic Pakistan and ‘twisted Turkey’ in the background, any ceasefire is unlikely to last long.

An interesting cultural side note: Mr. Philip Habib was the great musician and songwriter Warren Zevon’s inspiration for his 1982 album and song The Envoy. You should give it a listen.

“Nuclear arms in the Middle East

Israel is attacking the Iraqis

The Syrians are mad at the Lebanese

And Baghdad does whatever she please

Looks like another threat to world peace

For the envoy”

… and so on…

Mr. Zevon’s family history, his father in particular, is also quite interesting.

When all the hype and mythologising of the Lebanese government has taken its pre-ordained reality in fact not manufactured realities Israel will find the same enemies in charge of destroying Israels Northern defences regardless of American wishful thinking.

Israel must apply all relevant pressure on its U.S. supporters while obfiscating within its dialogue with the Oval Office. Be in no doubt should the Jewish State succumb to American self-interest at the expense of its own interests the North will be open to a far more serious opponent in Edergan's Turkey sponsered by a recalcitrant U.S.A.

We live in interesting times!

Then you and I have to hope the Democrats either don’t win, or the Party finally gets its act together, and stands up to the DSA.
