I've been writing for a while that this moment was coming. The DSA wing of the Democratic Party is ascendant, and it will demand not only an immediate end to all military aid for Israel (that's a given), but the imposition of sanctions on Israel and possibly even the U.S. signing on to the treaty that created the ICC, so that Israeli leaders could be arrested if they set foot in this country. Just watch..............
I would agree, this day's been brewing for a while (probably symbolically in America w/the start of Mearsheimer's Israel Lobby, coinciding with 20ish years of Netanyahu (IMO, he has misread America).
As a centrist American Jew, I feel very alienated this morning. For my fellow American Jews - I understand their democratic social leanings, but wish they could just 'abstain' so as not to also lose even Republican support. For my fellow Israeli Jews - I understand the need to be strong and for security; I just wish they could take a page out of Micah regarding, at a minimum, the 'perceptive' of relationship with Arabs & Palestinians (act justly, be compassionate, be humble). I don't see this happening with a Netanyahu government and the likes within his coalition.
I know the antisemites will be antisemites. I just wish we didn't make it so much easier for them.
American political operatives have been trying to influence Israeli elections for years. I don’t think it is good, but if the current election was subject to foreign influence, it wouldn’t be the first time. Just a different influencer.
Leaders are expected to act with foresight and this especially applies to Netanyahu, who claims unparalleled insights into US politics, and Trump.
They knew when they met in January that war was coming. That was the time to announce, in an unhurried and calm manner, that US military aid was coming to an end. It would have helped with the America First nationalists who want no foreign involvements.
What is most damaging is the way this was announced, with no preparation and in panic mode. That is what leaders should have avoided in January, with their knowledge of how events were about to unfold.
It’s absolut crazy and utmost dangerous if Israel can’t find a way out of this dividing of Population. Now that we lost the USA we have to strive to survive -instead of putting the only jewish state at peril.
