What??!! Am I not understanding something?? Are you suggesting, Amit, that Israel reduce its strategic depth into Gaza, because Islamic radicals are taking over the Democrat party? Is there something I'm not understanding??
According to every poll I’ve seen, the Arab-Israeli conflict was very far down the list of issues of concern to voters. As expected, economic issues predominated.
Centering Gaza made for clicks and controversy which is why the media foregrounded it. Foreign policy issues rarely if ever motivate the electorate.
That said, the no doubt more accurate conclusion to be taken is disappointing in its own way. Even though it was often by a small (and smaller than expected) margin of victory, the Democrats prioritized their perceived economic advantage (even if based on crack-brained schemes with no chance of passing any legislature because historical experience repeatedly demonstrated they end in catastrophic failure) over the safety of peoples thousands of miles away (whether Israelis, Palestinians or both).
Israel is an obsession for many young Americans and quite a few politicians of both political parties, although it’s worse for the Democrats who count outright Hamas supporters among their ranks. No matter what Israel does or does not do, it will be judged and deemed guilty. This being the case, Israel must follow its own interests and should not look forward to the news cycle moving on. It won’t.
It’s difficult to believe that anyone took the Mossad’s hare-brained scheme for overthrowing the Iranian government seriously. How can the Mossad be capable of such brilliant operations as the pager attack while also being so completely clueless about geopolitical realities?
Who said it was hairbrained? It was Turkey and Trump who decided to screw it up. The removal of the agents looks to me like pressure from Washington to punish a failure which Trump caused.
